Review: Blinded (Elkridge #1) by Lyz Kelley

                                                                 Description:
A small town murder. A second chance at love.

Somebody killed Joey Gaccione’s brother. After a ten-year absence, the big city detective returns home to Colorado for the funeral knowing he will be pressured to find Sheriff Sam’s killer. Joey’s instincts say whoever murdered his brother is part of something more sinister than the Elkridge deputies can handle.

Mara Dijocomo's dreams died the night a drunk driver killed her parents and sister, and left her permanently wounded. After months of therapy, she’s finally adjusting to her new reality while working to save her mother’s floral business. When the first boy she ever loved walks back into her life, she wonders if she and Joey are getting a second chance to find love.

As Joey and Mara’s love blooms, the evidence becomes clear the local deputies are either ill-equipped to comprehend what’s happening, or someone’s covering up a crime. Joey and Mara fight to balance between their careers, family, and their renewed love until the FBI contacts Joey ultimately tipping the scales.

                                                                  My opinion:
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Joey Gaccione was a well-known detective in Seattle. His brother's murder had brought him back to Elkridge, Colorado, a place he hadn't visited for the last ten years. Before he reached home he stopped at Elkridge Blooms to buy flowers for his family. There he saw again his high school crush Mara Dijocomo. At the request of his father, Joey decided to check his brother's case, but he felt that something dangerous was happening in the town. He was determined to find out before going back to Seattle. Half his mind was on the case and the other half on Mara so he combined these two by asking her help. They were making progress both on the job and between them but soon it was time for him to go back. Leaving Elkridge this time was the hardest thing he's ever done, especially after all the big crimes that were happening there. He knew he had to protect his loved ones and the rest of the people there so when an opportunity arose he took it. It was time for a new beginning...

Blinded is a Suspense/Contemporary romance. It's a well-written book with vivid images, an intense storyline, great dialogs and a good analyzing of characters. It is written in the present form and has a few glimpses from the past. The whole plot is quite emotional with a few funny scenes. There are a lot going on in this story, each character had its own serious problems and dilemmas. There were a few sensitive topics that were approached carefully and it makes you realize how much search and effort the author has put into this. I liked the epilogue a lot, even though it gives a certain closure for this story, it also leaves you with many questions for the second book. I'm glad I got the chance to read and review this book and I will rate it with 5 stars.
