(from the author) This is the seventh volume in an ongoing series. I
like to write, and these days I am no longer dependent on story or novel
sales to earn my living, so I write what I want. That means that much
of it does not find a publisher. I know how to write for a given market,
and made my reputation doing that, at the sacrifice of some of my
dearest projects; I do know how to play the game. But now I am free. So I
save the unwanted stories, and when I have enough to make a volume, I
arrange to publish that. If you feel that means this will be an inferior
collection, all I can say is that some of my favorites appear in these
Relationships volumes, so I regard it as a difference between a writer's
taste and publisher's tastes. You may judge for yourself whether the
stories are worthy. Fair warning: some are risque, such as "Trust" or
"Harvest." As a general rule, I prefer to make love, not war, so there
may be more naughtiness and less violence than you are used to in
contemporary fiction.
