Review: Death by Coconut by Susie Black

 Description:
Obnoxious Mystique Swimwear sales rep Simon Posnick was universally despised by competitors and customers alike. So the question wasn't who wanted the lying, cheating scoundrel dead. The question was who didn't. Mariel Levine, Laurie's Fashions' swimsuit buyer and Holly Schlivnik's career mentor, is wrongly arrested for murdering Posnick by impaling him with the jagged edge of a coconut shell at the base of his skull. The wisecracking, irreverent President of Mermaid Swimwear jumps into action to uncover the real killer. But the treacherous trail holds more dangerous human predators than the alligators and black pythons in the Everglades. Everything turns out differently than the way amateur sleuth Holly thinks it will as she tangles with a killer hellbent on revenge in this 223-page hilarious whodunit.

My opinion:

ARC Review

Death by Coconut by Susie Black is the seventh book in the Holly Swimsuit Mystery Series.

It’s time for the Miami Swimwear Trade Show, and Holly, along with the Yentas, is in attendance. The event also gives Holly the chance to reconnect with her mother and with Mariel Levine, the woman who first gave Holly an opportunity in the swimwear business. When the obnoxious sales rep Simon Posnick, who has managed to irritate just about everyone, is found dead by Holly, she immediately slips into sleuth mode. Especially since Mariel Levine is wrongly accused of the murder.

Solving this mystery turns out to be far more dangerous than expected and comes with a personal cost as well, particularly on the romantic front, since the detective assigned to the case is Holly’s former romantic partner.

I’ll say it once again: the Holly Swimsuit Mystery Series is one of the best mystery series I’ve ever read. This installment is just as entertaining as the others. The story is packed with suspects, motives, tight timelines, and plenty of danger. The author does a great job building the setup before the murder occurs, allowing readers to get a feel for the characters and potential suspects ahead of time.

Finding the real culprit wasn’t easy for me, which made the mystery even more enjoyable. The romantic subplot added an extra layer of tension, and the presence of the two ghosts brought a fun and unique twist to the story. My favorite moment was the final face-off with the murderer, which delivered a satisfying and memorable climax.

If you enjoy mysteries with unique main characters and plenty of twists, this series is definitely worth picking up.
