Review: West of Forever by Corinne Michaels

 Description:
Tristan Stone is off limits.

It doesn’t matter that the grumpy, single dad did nothing wrong. He’s a cowboy and his last name means I’m bound by blood to hate him. My family would never be okay with me having feelings for our enemy.

When he stops—in the pouring rain—because I have a flat tire, the last thing I expect is for him to help me.

I do my best to ignore the water sliding off his hat and how he fills out those jeans. My best, however, is not good enough. Each night I close my eyes and dream of a future we can never have. And after he defends me at the bar and we share a magical dance? It only gets worse.

I know I should forget about him, but when I find him alone one night, I offer up a no-strings attached relationship that we both promise to keep secret. Sidelong glances across property lines morph into clandestine meetings under the stars wrapped up in each other’s arms.

Never mind that our families will never approve or that he told me he can never love again, I crave him.

Soon our no feelings agreement is in tatters, and my heart belongs to that broken cowboy. Will he break it or will he defy them all and choose us instead?

My opinion:

ARC Review:

West of Forever by Corinne Michaels is the first book in the Heartstone Ranch series by Corinne Michaels.

The Stone and Gatlin families have been enemies for years, with their ranches sitting side by side. Despite the long-standing feud, Lark and Tristan have always felt an undeniable spark whenever their paths crossed. Both buried those feelings deep, knowing nothing good could come from them.

Everything changes when Tristan stops to help Lark after she gets stranded in the rain. One good deed turns into another, and before long, they're spending more time together because Tristan wants to be close to her. Eventually, they agree to a no-strings-attached arrangement. No feelings, no complications, no one gets hurt... right?

Of course, nothing goes according to plan.

This book was an absolute delight. It combines some of my favorite tropes: small-town romance, enemies to lovers, single dad, and cowboy romance. The story is told through dual POVs, has a steady pace, and includes plenty of entertaining moments along with some very steamy scenes.

The characters were fantastic, both the main cast and the supporting characters. Lark is sassy, strong-willed, and refuses to let anyone walk all over her, though she tries to avoid causing problems for her family. She's the perfect mix of sunshine and spitfire. Tristan is protective, stubborn, and every bit the swoon-worthy cowboy hero.

Their chemistry was incredible, especially during their playful banter when Lark wasn't afraid to challenge him. My favorite secondary characters were Sadie and Tristan's dad. One of my favorite scenes in the book was the conversation between Sadie and Lark about their chickens. It was such a fun and memorable moment.

If you love small-town western romances filled with heart, family drama, chemistry, and lovable characters, you'll definitely want to pick this one up.
