Review: A Not-So-Perfect Match by Eliza J. Bloom

 Description:
Harley Dawson doesn’t do “attachment.”

So when her estranged father gets in an accident, and she’s suddenly the legal guardian of a four-year-old brother she didn’t know existed, her carefully controlled life implodes overnight.

Now she’s juggling hospital visits, a chaos gremlin in the form of a small child, and a past she’s spent six years trying to outrun –

Max very much included.

Max Bennett is running out of time.

His daughter is getting sicker by the day, and no matter how many tests, calls, or sleepless nights he throws at the problem, he still can’t fix it.

He’s used to having answers. But this?

This is something he can’t solve.

When Harley and Max are thrown back into each other’s lives, old feelings resurface just as fast as old wounds.

Because no matter how much time has passed… they never really let each other go.

As the pressure builds and the stakes grow higher, they’re forced to face everything they left unsaid—about the past, about each other, and about what it means to stay when things get hard.

Because saving the people they love might mean not running this time.

This time, walking away isn’t an option.

My opinion:

ARC Review

A Not So Perfect Match by Eliza J. Bloom is the first book in the Willowbrook series, and it delivers an emotional second-chance romance filled with heart, healing, and family moments that will stay with you long after the final page.

Harley Dawson’s estranged father is involved in a car accident, and she’s suddenly called to the hospital as the next of kin for her four-year-old brother, a child she never even knew existed. Until her father recovers, Harley must take temporary custody of him and completely turn her life upside down.

At the same hospital, she unexpectedly reunites with Max Bennett, her college ex-boyfriend. Max is now a single father desperately trying to help his five-year-old daughter, who needs a kidney transplant. Six years may have passed, but the feelings between Harley and Max never truly disappeared. Between hospital visits, responsibilities, emotional baggage, and caring for the children, they must figure out whether love deserves a second chance.

Get ready to ugly cry, swoon, and then close the book with the warmest feeling in your chest. 💫

This was an incredible story that I’ll remember for a long time. Half of the book focuses on the second-chance romance between Max and Harley, while the other half explores family, forgiveness, and Harley’s complicated relationship with her father. The emotional depth of the story is beautifully balanced with lighter and entertaining moments, making the reading experience feel like an emotional rollercoaster in the best possible way.

The characters were wonderfully written and all felt important to the story. Each one brought something meaningful to the plot, and the interactions between the kids completely stole my heart. My favorite scenes were the children playing together and Max and Harley’s date night moments, which added softness and hope among all the heavier emotions.

If you enjoy emotional second-chance romances with family drama, lovable children, heartfelt healing, and plenty of touching moments, this book might be perfect for you.
