Review: A Simple Love by Melanie Moreland

 Description:
He left Richton to become a star. He's coming back to face the one he never forgot.

Oliver Hart
A well-known, leading Hollywood heartthrob is suddenly on the downslide.
Gossip and whispers of trouble follow him these days.
His latest project is yanked away, and a new role is offered to him.
One that sends him back home to the small town of Richton.
To the location of his greatest regret.
To where she is.

Kassie Brennan
The girl he once loved.
The one he left behind.
How will she react when she discovers he’s there?
Closer than either one of them realized?
Can the past stay in the past?
Or will their hearts decide their future?

My opinion:

ARC Review

A Simple Love by Melanie Moreland is the second book in the Return to Richton series.

Oliver Hart was once a Hollywood heartthrob, but lately his career has been falling apart. Between his drinking, bad decisions, and acting out, his agent decides he needs a break from Los Angeles. Her solution? Sending Oliver back to Richton to take some time away and film a movie there.

But returning to Richton isn’t easy for Oliver. The town holds memories of the past, especially the one woman he never stopped loving. Kassie Brennan was the girl he left behind years ago when he chose his career over their relationship. Now he’s back, and not only does he have to face her again, but she’s also his landlady… and she is definitely not happy to see him.

Kassie has created a beautiful life for herself in Richton. She has her career, her friends, and a peaceful routine. Oliver’s return brings back feelings she thought she had buried, but she refuses to let him break her heart a second time. Can they finally move past what happened years ago, or will their feelings for each other bring them back together?

This was such a beautiful and emotional second-chance romance. The story includes some of my favorite tropes: celebrity romance, girl next door, small-town romance, and second chances. I loved that the book had a dual POV and a steady, natural progression of their relationship.

Oliver and Kassie’s journey felt very realistic. They went through so many emotions, and I loved watching them slowly reconnect. Oliver especially went through a wonderful transformation throughout the story. He started out lost and overwhelmed, but seeing him grow, calm down, and become a better version of himself was amazing.

Kassie was also a great character. Although she was guarded because of everything that happened in the past, she slowly opened her heart again. I loved how they helped each other heal and how their chemistry developed naturally. They were such a sweet couple, and their intimate scenes added a fun and romantic touch to the story.

One of my favorite scenes was when Kassie got upset about the situation at Oliver’s work and went full mama bear. I loved seeing that protective side of her.

If you enjoy cozy small-town romances with second chances, emotional growth, and a couple finding their way back to each other, then A Simple Love is definitely a book you should pick up.
