Description:
“I own you. I have the piece of paper to prove it. It’s undeniable and unbreakable. You belong to me until you’ve paid off your debts.”
Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Being the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter.
She is no longer free.
Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an inheritance present on his twenty-ninth birthday. Her life is his until she’s paid off a debt that’s centuries old. He can do what he likes with her—nothing is out of bounds—she has to obey.
There are no rules. Only payments.
My opinion:
Jethro's Hawk family owned the Weaver family. At his twenty-ninth birthday, he got a "pet" as a gift, Nila. One mistake of her family 600 years ago sold her life to him. Nila was a fashion designer. At the end of her biggest fashion show a man, Jethro, appeared with her father, who wanted to take her. His cold demeanour was scaring her but she didn't have a choice, she had to go. At first, she thought she could flirt and satisfy her needs, later she found out what a real monster he was and that her life would change for the worst. From the very first day her nightmare began. Rape, beating and humiliation... She had to be strong, she had to find a way to get out of this situation. Her one chance at surviving was to make Jethro care, make him feel. Jethro loved to hunt, so when he saw how stubborn she was he made a negotiation with her: She could run to escape but if he caught her she would pay.
It's one of the darkest stories I have ever read. There were many times that I felt sick reading it and wanted to stop but I had to find out what happened next and what was the debt about. This book is like a rollercoaster that never stops. Definitely not for the faint-hearted or for those who love romance novels. I appreciate the warning of how dark it gets.
