ARC Review

The Ghost of What Remains by Maeve Garner is the third installment in the Jasper Lake Series.

Rhys McClaine is tasked by his aunt with overseeing a supernatural investigation at his family's lakeside mansion, a responsibility he reluctantly accepts since he doesn't believe in ghosts. Things become even more complicated when he meets Phoebe Davenport, the investigator hired to uncover the truth behind the mansion's haunting.

From the moment they meet, Rhys and Phoebe clash due to their strong personalities and opposing beliefs. However, as they spend more time together, their arguments slowly turn into attraction. When danger begins to close in and feelings deepen, they must decide whether they can overcome their differences and find their happily ever after.

This story delivers an engaging blend of mystery, suspense, romance, and the paranormal. The dual POV narrative works well, providing insight into both main characters while maintaining a steady pace throughout the novel. I especially enjoyed how the mystery unfolded gradually, with the tension and danger building toward an exciting conclusion.

The romance was equally entertaining, featuring both steamy moments and witty banter that brought the characters to life. The cast was memorable overall, though Gloria stood out as my favorite despite her limited page time. One of my favorite scenes was Rhys's encounter with a ghost, which perfectly captured the eerie atmosphere of the story.

If you enjoy paranormal romance with suspense, mystery, and a touch of ghostly intrigue, this is definitely a book worth adding to your reading list.
