What would you do if you discovered everything you knew was a lie? If your past came back to haunt you? Or if you found you could see the world in slow motion? What would you do if you were foretold to create a utopian kingdom with a stranger? For Katalina & Jeroph, the latter is the biggest question of them all. Years apart, the two discover they are at the center of an over two-thousand-year-old prophecy. One that promises peace amongst all beings who wish to live side by side without prejudice or fear. Dreamy as this is, peace doesn't come easily, especially with a target on your back.
Dormant blood lingers in Katalina's veins. That of a Pathical; beings who possess power that far surpass half the beings that reside within our realm. Thanks to the Mercurial – a great threat to any kind – & her followers, they created a gem that saps the life & abilities of any Pathical the user chooses. In turn, maximizing the user’s abilities. To make matters worse, Jeroph's eerie past lingers, threatening to crumble the foundation of the clan his father left in his uncertain hands. That the clan despises Jeroph, makes the future seem bleak. But how could he blame them, when he's had unexplained blackouts where he doesn't remember attacking his fellow clansmen?
Misfortune seems to be fond of the two, summoning obstacles left & right, including the Roma; protectors of the prophecy & puppeteers of events to come. Or so they believe. With the help of a 'rogue' jaguar & their friends & family who have been dragged into the mix, will they be able to uncover the truth of the prophecy? Can love bloom & withstand the chaos & fear? How many will suffer? How many lives lost? So many questions & only few have answers...
My opinion:
ARC Review
Pathical by V.H. Faolan is the first book in the Pathical series.
Katalina McCarthy is a young woman who dreams of being loved and living the life she has always wanted. Jeroph Beckman is a werewolf and the King of the Tiscareno Clan. Even though they come from completely different worlds, they discover they are destined mates. Together, they must fulfill an ancient prophecy and protect Katalina's powerful bloodline from dangerous enemies.
This was an enjoyable dark fantasy with plenty of suspense, action, and supernatural creatures. It has multiple POVs, a medium-paced plot, and a large cast of characters. I really liked the strong friendship and family relationships throughout the story. Each of the main characters has a painful past, which made their connections feel more meaningful.
Fantasy isn't a genre I read very often, but I found this book easy to follow, and I didn't have any trouble understanding the world or the different supernatural beings.
I also liked how Katalina and Jeroph's relationship developed, even before they officially met. The last few chapters were intense and kept me turning the pages.
If you enjoy dark fantasy, werewolves, prophecies, and supernatural stories, I would definitely recommend giving Pathical a try.
